Whakapapa Skifield at Mt Ruapehu

It’s now or never. We have to catch the last lap of the winter season (July to October) before we leave. After fervently watching the weather for over more than 10 days, last Wednesday proved to be the next best day to go with light snowfall and a few light drizzle in between. So off we went on a 3hour drive to Whakapapa Skifield at Mt Ruapehu.

Fast forward to 2hr and 45mins later, we reached the rental shop which is slightly off track from the Skifield. From Roy Turner Ski & Board Rental located at 25 Buddo St, we hired ski pants and ski gloves for 2 adults and 2 youths for about $90. Oh, including 2 sleds.

After a few road turns and road bends, we finally reached the foot of Mt Ruapehu. We drove all the way up to the carpark without needing to rent ($30-$40) any snow chains for the Lafesta.

Getting a parking lot was quiet easy as it being a weekday. We lugged the sleds on foot to the chair lift and decided to spend our time at the play area at no cost at all. If you would like to learn to ski or snowboard, there’s the snow school you could join for a fee.
